Lifted from the forthcoming Jusayin compilation FWXRD, a beautifully timeless track “MichelleReis” from California’s Broke brings us back to a sound where hip hop was super simple and round [vinyl] sounding. Have a listen/look and you’ll see. Enjoy.
Machinedrum, the self-proclaimed “world-healer, connector of the sun father with the earth mother through the octahedron of love” resurrected his “Sunshine” mix, originally turning up through Clash Magazine last summer. Just in time for 2013 summer rediscovery, this mix maintains it’s value and timelessness with 90’s memories and footwork danceability. Nice work dude. Download that asap.
Machinedrum says:
“This mix is a soundtrack to your Indian summer, if you’re having one right now, or a mix for those people that are in need of a lil’ sunshine. It’s a very summery/sunny mix to bring you out of your fall funk. Lots of juke/footwork and a lil’ jungle thrown in for good measure. There’s some jokes in there too. I went for the more soulful style of footwork instead of the colder minimal tunes meant more for the dancefloor. I played this exact set at the XLR8R boat party at Dimensions festival in Croatia this summer.”
Recently launched UK-based label ManMakeMusic founded by bass music veteran George Fitzgerald is one to look out for. Today, MMM announced a forthcoming project from Lazlo Dancehall – which is comprised of UK producers Leon Vynehall and Christian Piers.

WHOA! IAMNOBODI, super talented beatmaker out of Düsseldorf Germany, just dropped his version of The Clubcasa Chamber Orchestra’s “B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe” [which was already epic orchestral version to start with] further transforming the recognizable melody into a bassy masterpiece. Stay tuned for more from IAMNOBODI.
To celebrate his four millionth play on Soundcloud, Australian beatmaker Ta-ku, who undoubtedly also has the best hair in the game (see: exhibit a), has shared his groovy “Handful” track that was just recently released on Soulection’s Time In Between comp. Ta-ku has been doing it right from the very beginning by a) making AWESOME music, b) utilizing the digital musical landscape effectively and c) collaborating with a number of top record labels worldwide like Sunday Records [his own], Mushroom Music (AUS), HW&W (L.A.), Project Mooncircle (GER), Paper Chain (AUS), Soulection (L.A.) and LiveForTheFunk (L.A.).
Music creators should be taking notes from this guy. Stay tuned for more from Ta-ku here, here and here.
Oh hey! A late pass on JSTJR, bass music producer from the Boston area who is kind of killin’ it with his rad remixes and original productions. Definitely a little harder than the sounds we usually post, but if this shit doesn’t make you move, you might as well go back to sleep.
Here are a few of our picks from JSTJR, find them all here.
Computer Jay, the LA-based musical genius who taught himself how to build a rapping, talking, super computer has teamed up with rad newcomer vocalist, Orfeo, for a spaced out, sexy tune “Hardships”. What a lovely and sensible collaboration, bringing out the signature sounds of both Computer Jay and Orfeo.
Eritrean-born, San Diego-based beat lover Eden Hagos brings visibility to those future sounds that you can’t quite put your genre finger on. Deep rooted in underground hip hop, sample-based, percussion-heavy tunes and future bass, Eden’s ear for unique sounds has kept her digging since her uncle gave her her first Fugees album at age 16.
Last year, Eden dropped her first mixtape,Blur, followed by Her Favorite Beats in the months following. The beat scene and local producers started listening and partnerships with artists, labels, and connectors in the community became plentiful.
Miss Hagos’ influences heavily come from those nearby – those who’ve given the San Diego and Los Angeles beat scene a name – artists like AbJo, Mike Gao, eLan, Gonjasufi, Gaslamp Killer and the Soulection movement.
Eden is poised to bring light to the beat makers in this movement while uncovering and educating folks along the way of all of the genres that exist within these future sounds.
I just dropped a mix yesterday called “Currently” and it features some of my favorite current beat makers that I feel carry the sound of tomorrow. There’s so much hidden talent out there and the ultimate goal is to be able to allow them to share that with the world. I want to be able to connect and play the middle-man for people and music. All the quality music I love is underground and has to be dug for, I want to share my musical jewels. I hope that “Currently” inspires you to discover new music and be open to all of the different sounds coming out of the beat scene.
Well look who’s back! Señor Quantic, one of our most favorite British sound makers (now based in Colombia) who runs the gamut of trip hop, house, cumbia, downtempo and then some! This time, he takes us through a short expedition into the much overlooked tipica cumbia sound of Panamá and says:
The heartache, melancholy and joy in the Panamá Tipica sound is hard to match and like no other to experience. It comes from a rich background of regional musical traditions, carnival rivalry and hotbeds like the legendary ‘Festival en Guarare’. As I understand it, Panamanian cumbia was first played on violin until the arrival of accordions on the Isthmus, most early acordeoneros were violinists first and foremost. This mixtape comprises of some of the best 45s from the Herrera and Los Santos provinces, from the mid 50s through to late 60s. Over the last few years I’ve had the good fortune to meet several of these wonderful artists. Featured here: Dorindo, Papi Brandao, Oswaldo,Fito Espina, Ulpiano, Ceferino and more… (photo compliments of Papi Brandao). Viva Panamá!
Enjoy and watch out for Quantic in a city near you very soon as he embarks on his 2013 US tour.

Brainfeeder’s Shigeto continues to amaze us. His ethereal, jazzy yet hip hoppy beats inspire. To celebrate the late, great Dilla who’s 39th birthday would have been this week, Shigeto connects with a host of characters: SKYWLKR (Detroit), Mux Mool (Brooklyn + peep our interview with him here), Cas (London), Devonwho (SF), Josef Deas (Michigan) and I.D to create awesome well-rounded Dilla dedication.
Shigeto gives a little insight into the Dilla dedication:
This set was curated and inspired by J Dilla’s constant integration of countless genres and relentless output. All unfinished tracks. Raw. Uncut. Mostly with friends - made in 1 hour or less. Hope you enjoy. Love you Jay Dee. Eternal thanks and respect.
So we’ve been following Vienna-based Roman Rauch for a few years now from his productions to his mixes to the radio show and this dude never disappoints. We recently came across a really nice guest mix on Roman’s Generell Deep Radio Show from Abby Lee Tee (Austria) that was super amazing – sweet track selection and mix.
So, we share with you Abby’s lovely mix as well as some of his own productions. Fairy floss? Sweet.
Enjoy.
