Fatsouls Records

The San Francisco-based deep, afro-house label Fatsouls, founded by Said Adekelan, has been giving amazing visibility to artists whilst nurturing the SF house scene for 10+ years.

First known as an event production team, Fatsouls officially became a label in 2007.  The label’s aim is to release organic and soulful dance music with emphasis on Afrobeat, Dub, Deep House, minimal tech and other Afro rhythms. Fatsouls has gained a very strong following over the years working with artists like Francois K, Joe Claussell, Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent, Dennis Ferrer, Jerome Sydenham, Barbara Mendez, DJ Yellow, Lisa Shaw, among many others.

The latest release comes from Detroit’s own Alton Miller who falls in line with the Fatsouls organic stylings and produces a beautifully danceable tune.  Check out this nice review from Marke B on The SF Bay Guardian. Purchase on Beatport

Lukid | Chord

Lukid’s music has been appropriately described as “electronic lullabies”. Sounding something like a Boards of Canada re-rub of a Dabrye tune (or vice versa), he is equally adept at restraint and nuance as he is at beats and bass. His new album Chord is set to drop for the label Werk Discs soon and songs have begun to leak…

Lukid recently made a killer mix that can be found over at www.brainfeedersite.com that you will want to download asap. -Bozak

Caribou for YOU!

Psychedelic electro groove?  Yes, please.  Sometimes music is more than just a song or a hook or a structured string of notes crashing together gallantly.  Sometimes you just have to experience, vibe and journey with it.  That’s why Canadian bedroom producer Dan Snaith A.K.A Caribou A.K.A Manitoba is pretty freakin cool.

Trippy hippieness meets the new millenium and makes you want to move something.  Caribou’s latest album, Swim is a culmination of funky electronic based instrumentals toned in  super organic and innocent vocals creating a vibey paradoxical balance.  The second single off the album, “Sun” is a perfect example of that and well “Odessa” was just a great way to set if all off. P.S.  Caribou is currently on European/North American tour and is planning on doing a massive amount of touring this fall with Toro y Moi present for a good amount of showtimes. YAY! -Lady J

Bilal | Black Milk | Dibiase

Today was a real big day for new releases with Black Milk’s (w/ Daru & AB) Album Of The Year (Fat Beats/Decon), Dibiase’s Machines Hate Me (Alpha Pup) and lastly but not least Mr. Bilal Oliver’s Airtight’s Revenge (Plug Research).

Bilal’s third studio album Airtight’s Revenge has been buzzing big time for the past year and we can honestly say it lives up to the hype.  It is as soulful as it is progressive and experimental.  The album is genius in that it is not limiting at all.  It encompasses many sounds and layers whilst weaving through emotions.  Airtight’s Revenge is definitely a whole package that should not be picked apart track by track, but rather digested as a whole.

Toro y Moi ♥

Photo: Jordan Bee

What is chillwave you ask?  I’m not sure if I can quite put it into words, but your boy Chazwick Bundick (gnarly name) AKA Toro y Moi can definitely put it into sound.  Hailing from all places…South Carolina? Really?  Damn skippy.  Let’s just say it’s a little bit of 80s electronica spawn rooted in generation Y psychedelia, filtered down for all of your nostalgic needs and sprinkled in audible THC.

Oh, remember the super rad ambient sounds of Washed Out which we raved about not too long ago?  Surprise, surprise, these two cats have been known to musically collab on a frequent basis.  AWESOME!  So, now that your brain has unwound itself, had a glass of wine and undone the metaphorical zipper on your Thanksgiving Day pants, I suggest you peep the new project Leave Everywhere, vibe, enjoy and chilllll… - Lady J
