Have you heard of Kreayshawn? She is a badass rapper/film maker/photographer/beatmaker/writer from Oakland, CA. Found out about her through the homie @Speak who describes Kreayshawn as “a finely cooked gumbo of rave culture, early 90’s fem rap, Oakland street hustle & raw sexuality”. We are down. Check it.

The San Francisco-based deep, afro-house label Fatsouls, founded by Said Adekelan, has been giving amazing visibility to artists whilst nurturing the SF house scene for 10+ years.
First known as an event production team, Fatsouls officially became a label in 2007. The label’s aim is to release organic and soulful dance music with emphasis on Afrobeat, Dub, Deep House, minimal tech and other Afro rhythms. Fatsouls has gained a very strong following over the years working with artists like Francois K, Joe Claussell, Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent, Dennis Ferrer, Jerome Sydenham, Barbara Mendez, DJ Yellow, Lisa Shaw, among many others.

Caribou’s latest album, Swim is a culmination of funky electronic based instrumentals toned in super organic and innocent vocals creating a vibey paradoxical balance. The second single off the album, “Sun” is a perfect example of that and well “Odessa” was just a great way to set if all off. P.S. Bilal’s third studio album Airtight’s Revenge has been buzzing big time for the past year and we can honestly say it lives up to the hype. It is as soulful as it is progressive and experimental. The album is genius in that it is not limiting at all. It encompasses many sounds and layers whilst weaving through emotions. Airtight’s Revenge is definitely a whole package that should not be picked apart track by track, but rather digested as a whole.

We first heard about Chilean/French Rapper/Mother/Producer, Ana Tijoux, on Friends We Love’s 120 second series expressing her inspiration through dreams. We fell in love with Ana in seconds and then heard her music and it was over. She recently released her 3rd album, 1977, in April on Nacional Records and has recently garnered some serious press and notoriety because of her unique delivery, style and perspective. The legendary institution and one-stop for hip hop, Fat Beats, closed it’s NY location last week and this weekend the remaining LA store will have it’s final showdown. OM Records just sent over an amazing tribute to all the folks involved in the creation and exploration of the Fat Beats culture. The LA-based by way of Sac town & Cameroon, Andy Allo, is a lady of all trades! You may have seen her beautiful face in the U.S. post office or on a Toyota commercial but the sweet thing is that this girl can SING! With a super cute, bubbly yet soulful voice she has just release UnFresh her debut body of work. The track “Dreamland” is a lovely collaboration with vocalist extraordinaire, Blu adding that extra fly flare. Basically this thing is sexy, soulful and sweet.
