Greetings! The Mint Collective is a group of people from different beats all using their blessings to promote, market & increase visibility for creative endeavors.
We ♥ music, art, creativity, traveling, technology, food and drink, love, life, laughing and lots more. Its fun, really, sometimes even splendid.
Meet London-based vocalist, the lovely miss Fatima. You may recognize her fresh sounds from working on many collaborations with folks like Shafiq Husayn, Slum Village and Floating Points. On March 8, 2010 her first official EP release, Mindtravelin is out on Eglo Records. Four tracks deep with production handled by the likes of Dam Funk (yep!) VeebeeO and Funkineven. BBC Radio host and musical tastemaker, Benji B, premiered the lead track ‘Soul Glo’ on his 1Xtra show last Sunday.
If a song starts with “You’ve got the right, to keep it funky every night” we’re pretty much sold. On top of the unifying ‘Unifunk’ title, the ATL-based Jaspects weave through funk, techno sounds and hip hop shoulder movements as if there were no such thing as genres. Nice work team.
“Born during the hip-hop movement, Jaspects integrates their youthful skill to progress music and build a bridge between musical genres. Formally trained alumni of Morehouse College’s music department, Jaspects’ goal is to produce an exhaustive musical experience that involves TRUE freedom of expression via musical and lyrical creativity.”

Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival is back in Singapore on the 27th and 28th of August 2010 for two WF sessions of cutting edge grooves by the best of today’s inspired artists. Here is a gift we found from one of our fav dj’s, Lefto, serving as a preview of what’s to come at this installation of the WF. IT’S DOPE and “should be played at high volume, preferably in a residential area!”

The ultimate funkateer, Dam Funk linked with UK-based soul singer Fatima for this lovely throwback-esque jawn, “Warm Eyes”. Definitely feelin’ the soul glo of this one! Make sure to catch Fatima on Phantom Lover’s latest EP, Mauve.
The New Zealand-based Electric Wire Hustle recently made their U.S. debut in Los Angeles. There was no doubt that they would be amazing live and I’m very excited to report that they absolutely demolished any and every expectation I had. The show was electric, funky and just an old fashioned good time.
Getting things started off properly Taylor Mcferrin and an amazing drummer he brought along set it off with some rad beatboxing/Rhodes keys/drum breaks and experimental glory. Immediately after Mr. Mcferrin, Master Blazter (Dam Funk, J1 THE DEER & Computer Jay) proceeded to serve up the funk on a gold platter with some of the best LA energy ever getting everyone nice and hyped up for Electric Wire Hustle.
Prior to EWH’s set, I was able to step outside with them and get to know the trio a bit better. Watch below as they share their vast influences, views on public policy, what they look forward to, who they’d like to collaborate with, and Mara TK’s cooking specialties!
Super special thank you’s to Aaron Byrd and Hayley Digwall for coordination and support, Anthony Valadez for the use of his camera when both of my recording devices failed, Aaron Gleen from BeatsNcrates for filming and SefDiggy & Greg The Dude for their super sweet expert assistance in post-production. Much love to all who were in attendance and to those who have supported amazing, quality through their creative endeavors. -J. Marie
From teaching himself how to play the drums in his hometown, Cleveland, OH to linking up with some of the most progressive musicians on the funkscape of his adopted city Los Angeles, J1 demonstrates himself as dedicated, passionate, and, in his words, “straight to the point.”
Known for his membership in Master Blazter along with Computer Jay and Dam Funk to drumming in Shafiq Husayn’s En’AFreeKa Ensemble to releasing several beat tapes and podcasts through Heavyweight Production House, J1 has grown to be one of the foremost funk drivers on soul/boogie scene.
Philadelphia’s own Record Breakin’ Music is proud to release his latest project, The Yellow June 14. The Yellow sees collaborations from some heavy musical hitters like Jimetta Rose, Devonwho, Ragen Fykes, I,Ced, Coultrain and Teeko.
Enjoy the mix J1 has masterfully put together (it’s really, really good) in support of The Yellow project as well as a preview from the project with the jams “Parable” f/ Coultrain & “Take Flight” f/ Ragen Fykes.
