Meet London-based vocalist, the lovely miss Fatima. You may recognize her fresh sounds from working on many collaborations with folks like Shafiq Husayn, Slum Village and Floating Points. On March 8, 2010 her first official EP release, Mindtravelin is out on Eglo Records. Four tracks deep with production handled by the likes of Dam Funk (yep!) VeebeeO and Funkineven. BBC Radio host and musical tastemaker, Benji B, premiered the lead track ‘Soul Glo’ on his 1Xtra show last Sunday.
With the spring freshness in the air Miss Fatima is poised to make her first official video debut, ‘Soul Glo’ off of the Mindtravlin’ EP (Eglo Records). A goofy take on an infomercial, accompanied by spaced out funky beats and Fatima’s angelic soul sound - it’s sure to refresh the ear.
Some really nice music coming out of Brooklyn these days. Alex Hadyn a.k.a The Phantom Lover, just released his Mauve EP on the eve of his birthday. With collaborations from Sarah White, Jesse Boykins III, Ghetto Falsetto and UK-soul singer Fatima, this soulful little package is poised for your listening pleasure. Don’t Sleep! Enjoy!
The ultimate funkateer, Dam Funk linked with UK-based soul singer Fatima for this lovely throwback-esque jawn, “Warm Eyes”. Definitely feelin’ the soul glo of this one! Make sure to catch Fatima on Phantom Lover’s latest EP, Mauve.
London-based songstress by way of Sweden, Miss Fatima is a shining star. Her wandering soulfully decadent voice has been featured on several projects over the past couple years. One of the first we remember was Shafiq Husayn’s “Little Girl” and since then the Eglo recording artist has been breaking down genre specific walls and carving her own niche into all things soulful. The next EP she has coming out is produced solely by 23-year old Sam Shepard who goes by the name Floating Points. Known for jazzy, synth-based dubstep, melodic floating sounds Mr. Shepard demonstrates sounds’ capability to transform moods. Miss Fatima and Sam are sure to create some smashing sounds and as a preview from the forthcoming EP Follow You enjoy the beatless and magical journey of “Innervisions”.
Fatima just dropped her “Follow You” Ep on Eglo Records (Of course), if you’re a fan make sure you support the right way by buying it at your local recordstore or favorite online store. Only on vinyl for now and digitally in a few weeks. Vinyl comes first…Listen below + purchase herevia @lefto:
The Preface EP is launching on Ho Tep Records (London) from the mysterious Dirg Gerner featuring an all-star cast including Rahel, Fatima and Olmino. Drawing on soul, jazz, latin, hip hop and beyond the ep is a deep and colorfully layered affair, organic and warm, it displays an array of instruments and styles.
Lead track ‘My Queen’ is a dusty and delicate, blue eyed soul ode, sung by Dirg himself - while ‘Loose Lights’ draws on latin and folk influences, heavy on the percussion this time enlisting the incredible vocal talents of Rahel. You may remember Rahel from her fantastic work with MDCL on jammy jam “Hope”.
