M.D.C.L. presents -> Rahel

Nu-jazz pioneer, Mark De Clive-Lowe, has been getting busy in the studio mixing it up with folks like Sy Smith, Jody Watley and Tortured Soul, creating beautiful, funky melodies.  Here is the latest addition to the crew of musical pioneers, the lovely, soulful sounds of UK-based Rahel.  You might have heard of Rahel as she has worked alongside Eric Lau, G.A.M. & Dudley Perkins to name a few.  This time Rahel and Mark come through with a lovely downtempo piano-laden jam “Hope”.

MdCL presents Sy Smith | Teena (Lovergirl Syberized)

This serves as a wonderful tribute to the queen of Blue-Eyed Soul, Teena Marie, who passed last week at the age of 54.  Electronic-Jazz master Mark De Clive-Lowe and eclectic soul singer Sy Smith really do a number on this one.  Well done.

Dirg Gerner | Preface EP

The Preface EP is launching on Ho Tep Records (London) from the mysterious Dirg Gerner featuring an all-star cast including Rahel, Fatima and Olmino. Drawing on soul, jazz, latin, hip hop and beyond the ep is a deep and colorfully layered affair, organic and warm, it displays an array of instruments and styles.

Lead track ‘My Queen’ is a dusty and delicate, blue eyed soul ode, sung by Dirg himself - while ‘Loose Lights’ draws on latin and folk influences, heavy on the percussion this time enlisting the incredible vocal talents of Rahel. You may remember Rahel from her fantastic work with MDCL on jammy jam “Hope”.
