Set to be their first release on Philly’s own Recordbreakin’ label, Amsterdam-based La Melodia is poised to musically elevate new territories. La Melodia is female MC Melode and producer/DJ I.N.T. The duo stands for warm, soulful yet raw hip-hop music from the Netherlands.
“Chemistry” is a return to the boom bap style of hip hop with Melodee talking about relationships that we can all relate to. While “Working on It” introduces soulful newcomer, Steve Hartley. This instant classic has the perfect vibe that La Melodia is known for and the content is the familiar to so many of us in the music and art culture.
Melodee and I.N.T. currently reside in Amsterdam but met in Eindhoven, where they grew up under the smoke of the Philips factories. Hip Hop heads in this industrial city live by a ‘do-it-yourself’ mentality; creating their own soundsystem, squat parties and record store. Within that underground atmosphere, I.N.T. developed his DJ & producer skills, and Melodee first stepped on the stage.
SOIL & ”PIMP” SESSIONS is an explosive Japanese jazz band, comprised of six musicians; Shacho (agitator, spirit), Tabu zombie (trumpet), Motoharu (sax), Josei (piano), Akita Goldman (bass) and Midoryn (drums).
At its core, the group is about giving pulsating live performances. SOIL&”PIMP” SESSIONS combine the highest musicianship with the coolest of cool sounds and atmosphere. Their brand of jazz is rough around the edges, unadulterated entertainment and constantly kept at boiling point.
Take a listen to a jam off their 6th studio album, 6. +Read the press release here.
Soil & Pimp Sessions’ music can be found via Brownswood Recordings - the London-based indie label from globe trotting purveyor of all sounds soulful and inspired, Gilles Peterson.

When I had my big afro my friends said I looked like Frederick Douglas. Then I saw that movie Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks and i was like “well do you also say Frooooderick?”It stuck after that.
LOL.What vibe/s would you associate with Heartaches & Beatbreaks? Any recommended activities to partake in while listening to your new project?

is a gathering that takes you back to a time where Saturday morning cartoons and cereal were the most important part of the day, when it was 12 noon and you were out riding your bike and your older brothers and sisters were watching Soul Train doing the latest moves…
At the root of this all 45 event spinning rare soul, afrobeat, reggae, breaks and other funky gems is the feel good vibe. Adding to the already glorious tunes by the handpicking of amazing visuals shown on projectors from rare commercials, tv shows, movie trailers, 70’s cartoons and concert footage brings forth that extra sumthin sumthin every party needs to complete Hot Peas and Butta package.
The feel good party vibe is coming together with the help of Record Breakin’ for a sweet release of the limited edition 45 Hot Peas & Butta project. Hot Peas & Butta Band is a mix of Skeme Richard’s dusty 45s, a collection of legendary blaxploitation flicks, a packed dancefloor and the musical stylings of a funky band from Philly called Big Pimp Jones.
Check the technique on how it’s done:
Stay tuned as DJ Amir and Skeme get set to take the show on the road internationally by delivering that funky goodness throughout Europe and all points in between. First stop Brooklyn for DJ Junior’s bornday celebration.
Our favorite Philly Radio show, Eavesdrop Radio, does it again with an amazing broken beat throwback episode. This is a nice reminder of the genre - that some of us often forget but love nevertheless. Thanks to Junior and Lil’ Dave for always keeping it fresh.
